Welcome!

... and thanks for visiting my web page!

I am a Brazilian plant ecologist with a background in botany, plant physiology, and applying trait-based ecological approaches and plant hydraulics to predict tropical tree community structure. As an ecologist, I strive to conduct policy-relevant research about the impact of climate change and environmental variation on forest diversity via trait-based ecology approaches. In light of ongoing and accelerated climate change, we face the challenging task of rapidly progressing science. Trait-based ecology provides powerful tools to achieve such progress. As a scientist, my goal is to apply trait-based ecology analysis and novel scientific tools and theory to improve our understanding of how environmental variability affects biodiversity. I am specifically interested in assessing a deeper understanding of how forest diversity and structure change via plant hydraulics traits and xylem architecture. I study plant anatomical traits to provide new insights about their functions, and how that affects individual plants and scales up to tree communities' structure.
